March 19 of each year, commemorates an ancient ritual. Traditional evening procession which culminates with an impressive “Rite of Fire”, In the central square of the village the whole community can be found around the fire of “invernacciu” dying and greeted the new season with the hope that bring wealth and abundance of fruits.

The night of the pirates is a gaming and folk event organized every year in Porto Ercole in April or May. The village is invaded by pirates who land from the sea among screams, the light of torches and colored smoke; the night goes on until dawn with music, dances and parties.
Twice a year, in May and August, Massa Marittima comes back to the medieval times with the centuries-old crossbow competition organized by the Association of Terzieri of the old town. At the opening show there is the medieval costumed parade and the show of the “Sbandieratori”, (flag wavers.) In June takes place the Classic boats meeting, it’s a very delightful sensation watching these jewels of the marine art cutting through the waves, but, at the same time, it’s charming to walk along the wharf admiring them when they are moored side by side.
